Student Grading
How to grade a student
Student grading consists of 2 evaluations during the course of each 5 week rotation. The Midpoint evaluation should occur approximately 2.5 weeks into the rotation. The Midpoint evaluation does not factor into the student's rotation grade--rather, the midpoint evaluation should be used so that the student will understand where they stand on the rotation and changes may be made if necessary. The Midpoint evaluation is NOT submitted online, although the preceptor may print an evaluation form off of the EMS website to use as a guide when completing the Midpoint evaluation. The final evaluation is used to calculate the student's final grade for the rotation, and the final evaluation IS submitted online on the EMS system. If a student is completing a 10 week rotation at one pharmacy rotation site, an online evaluation must be completed in the EMS system at the end of EACH 5 week period.
It is also recommended that, in addition to the midpoint and final evaluations, the preceptor should meet with their student weekly and discuss the rotation. The student should be aware of any problems/issues that may affect their grade so that they may improve before the final evaluation. The preceptor should also ask the student for feedback on the rotation so that the student may make suggestions on how to improve the rotation. Frequent communication & feedback between the preceptor and student is essential for a high quality learning experience.
Under the project section of the EMS grade form, only enter grades for projects that the student has actually completed. Students are not required OR expected to complete projects that fit into each of the categories listed. Points under the project section should be divided among the projects that the student has actually completed.
